WHEN a single mum-of-three walked into Liebke Tyre Service, the owner knew he couldn't let her drive away without helping.
On Wednesday a woman booked her car in to be looked at by Chris Liebke because she was worried she had a minor tyre issue.
When Mr Liebke examined her tyres he discovered they were "beyond bad" and all four needed replacing.
The woman broke down and said she couldn't afford to get them replaced because she was struggling to make ends meet since she was widowed and had spent almost all her money on back to school supplies for her three children.
Mr Liebke said he couldn't let her leave with the tyres in poor condition.
"They were at the point of really dangerous, I couldn't just not help her, especially when she was driving around with young children," he said.
"I told her I would do the job for her and she could pay me when she could afford it.
"I didn't want her to stress about the cost with everything else she had to worry about.
"Later on in the day I posted the story on my personal Facebook page and was inundated with calls and offers to help.
"That afternoon her tyres were all paid. Between a number of people we raised $500 for her."
Mr Liebke said the woman was blown away by the generosity of strangers.
"She didn't know what to say, she was so grateful for all the people who helped her," he said.
"It really made her day and now she will be far safer on the road.
"It blew my mind. There is so much good in this town."
Late last year Liebke Tyres was voted the best business in Toowoomba for customer service.
The Chronicle asked its online readers to share their most memorable customer service experiences and the results were abundant.
Mr Liebke and his staff were regularly praised for outstanding customer service.
It's clear the gesture of kindness towards the widowed woman wasn't a once-off affair, with many of Mr Liebke's customers praising his work.
Mr Liebke said there was no secret to delivering great customer service, it was about "going above and beyond what they would expect."
"You never know when you can make someone else's day just by doing the right thing," he said.
Liebke's Tyre Service is at 46 Clifford St.
